How speed is calculated

Measure Formula
WPM correctly typed characters ÷ 5, per minute — the standard “five characters per word”, spaces included
Characters per minute correctly typed characters per minute
Accuracy correct characters ÷ characters typed
Errors wrong characters plus any typed past the end of the sentence
Korean speed keystrokes per minute on the standard two-set (dubeolsik) layout; 한 = ㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ = 3 strokes

Mistyped characters do not count toward speed, so rushing with lots of errors lowers your score.

Examples

  • Typing a 50-character sentence perfectly in 30 seconds gives (50 ÷ 5) ÷ 0.5 min = 20 WPM.
  • Typing 300 characters correctly in one minute is 60 WPM.
  • If you type 40 characters and 2 are wrong, accuracy is 38 ÷ 40 = 95%.

Things to keep in mind

  • Pasting and drag-and-drop are disabled. On phones, autocorrect and auto-capitalization can affect your score.
  • In Korean mode, a syllable that is still being composed (for example 하 on the way to 한) is not counted as an error.
  • Your best score is saved in this browser only when accuracy is at least 80%, and it is never sent to a server.
  • To count the characters and words in your own writing, use the character counter.

FAQ

Is WPM measured in real words?

No. Typing tests treat every five characters (including spaces) as one word, so long and short words are scored fairly.

Why is my WPM lower than I expected?

Only correct characters count, and the clock runs from your first keystroke to the last character, including any pauses to fix mistakes.

Can I practice the same sentence again?

Yes — Try again restarts with the same sentence, and New sentence switches to another one. Each language has ten practice sentences.
