PDF to PNG

Turn PDF pages into crisp, lossless PNG images — transparent background optional.

Runs in your browser · No upload Works offline

How to use

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box or click to choose one. For a password-protected file, enter its open password.
  2. Convert every page or just some, using a range like 2-4, 7. Clicking a preview adds or removes that page.
  3. Pick a resolution (dpi). Turn on Transparent background if you don’t want the white page behind the content.
  4. Press Convert to PNG. One page downloads directly; several pages come as a ZIP.

PNG or JPG?

PNG JPG
Compression Lossless — every pixel is kept Lossy — artifacts appear as quality drops
Transparency Supported Not supported
Best for Text, tables, charts, slides, drawings Photos, scanned documents
File size Small for flat colors, large for photos Stays small even with photos

Charts for a report or slides for a blog post look best as PNG. For scans or photo-heavy pages, PDF to JPG gives much smaller files.

Image size by resolution

One PDF point is 1/72 inch, so pixels = page size in points ÷ 72 × dpi (fractions rounded down).

Page 72 dpi 150 dpi 300 dpi
16:9 slide (720×405 pt) 720×405 px 1500×843 px 3000×1687 px
US Letter (612×792 pt) 612×792 px 1275×1650 px 2550×3300 px

150 dpi suits slides shared on the web; 300 dpi suits print or drawings you need to zoom into.

How the transparent background works

A PDF page has no background of its own — viewers simply show it on white paper. With the transparent option on, that white backdrop is skipped and only text, lines and shapes are drawn into the PNG’s alpha channel. That’s handy for placing a logo, signature or chart on top of another design. A scanned page is one big photo, so it stays opaque, and so does any page whose authoring app painted a white rectangle behind the content.

Things to know

  • All processing happens in your browser; the file is never uploaded.
  • Large pages at 300 dpi can exceed the canvas limit of some browsers — notably Safari on iPhone and iPad, at about 16.8 megapixels. Those pages are saved at a slightly lower resolution with the aspect ratio kept, and you’ll be told which ones.
  • PNG is lossless, so there’s no quality setting. Lower the dpi if files are too big.

FAQ

Can I copy text from the images?

No — once rendered, text becomes pixels. Use PDF to Text to pull out the words.

Can I turn the PNGs back into a PDF?

Yes. PNG to PDF combines them into one file in the order you choose.
