How to use
- Drop a photo or click to choose one. Screenshots can be pasted straight in with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V).
- Drag over the preview to add areas to hide — faces, license plates, phone numbers, addresses. Add as many as you need; Undo last area removes a mistake.
- Choose an effect (pixelate, blur or black out) and its strength, then download. To soften the entire picture, switch Apply to to Whole photo.
Photos are processed in your browser and never uploaded. Area outlines appear only in the preview, never in the saved file.
Which effect to use
| Effect | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Pixelate | Fills each block with its average color | Faces and plates — obviously hidden but natural-looking |
| Blur | Mixes neighbouring pixels (three box-blur passes ≈ Gaussian) | Soft backgrounds and mood |
| Black out | Covers the area with a single solid color | ID numbers, bank details, addresses — anything that must not leak |
Strength sets the block size (or blur radius): block size = shorter side × strength ÷ 1000. On a 4000×3000 photo, strength 30 gives blocks of about 90 px; on a 960×560 screenshot, about 17 px. Strength 100 equals 10% of the shorter side.
Hiding things for real
- Use black out or strong pixelation for text and numbers. Light blur can leave letter shapes readable, and tools exist that reconstruct text from finely pixelated screenshots. A block larger than the height of a line of text is a safe rule of thumb.
- Draw the area slightly larger than what you are hiding — stray edges of characters are a common leak.
- The saved file is redrawn from scratch, so EXIF metadata from the original — location, camera details — is not carried over.
- Before posting photos showing other people’s faces, plates or contact details, take one more look at what is still visible.
FAQ
Can the pixelation be undone later?
No. The original pixels are replaced by averages in the saved file, so keep your original photo somewhere safe.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes — drag with your finger over the preview to add an area. In area mode the image does not scroll the page, so scroll by dragging outside the image.
I also want to add a logo or signature.
Run the result through Add Watermark to Image, or cut it into tiles with Split Image.
