How to use

  1. Drop the photo onto the box or click to choose it. You can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V.
  2. Choose an aspect ratio at the top. “Free” lets you crop any shape; 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:4 and 9:16 lock the proportions.
  3. Drag the bright area to move it and drag the white handles on its corners and edges to resize. For exact values, type the X, Y, width and height in pixels.
  4. The cropped result appears below with its dimensions and file size — click Download to save it.

Keyboard works too: Tab to the crop area, then use the arrow keys to move 1px, Shift+arrow to move 10px and Alt (Option on Mac)+arrow to resize. The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

Which ratio to use

Ratio Typical use Example at 1080px
1:1 Profile pictures, square Instagram posts, product shots 1080×1080
4:3 Standard camera and phone photos, slides 1440×1080
16:9 YouTube thumbnails, monitors and TVs, landscape video 1920×1080
3:4 Portrait photos 1080×1440
9:16 Stories, Reels and Shorts, phone wallpapers 1080×1920

Switching the ratio places the largest box of that shape in the center of the image. If you need an exact pixel size afterwards, use Resize Image.

Entering coordinates

  • X and Y are the distance in pixels from the top-left corner of the photo to the top-left corner of the crop.
  • Width and height set the size of the crop. With a ratio locked, changing one updates the other.
  • Values that would go outside the photo are pulled back inside. On a 4000×3000 photo, X = 3500 with a width of 1000 becomes X = 3000.
  • Coordinates follow the orientation you see on screen, with the phone’s rotation (EXIF) already applied.

Things to know

  • Cropping removes pixels, so the file gets smaller. The image is re-encoded, so avoid very low quality settings for JPG — the default of 92 is hard to tell from the original.
  • EXIF data, including GPS location, is not kept in the cropped file.
  • If the photo is tilted or sideways, fix it first with Rotate & Flip Image, then crop.

FAQ

Can I crop to a circle?

This tool crops rectangles only. A 1:1 crop is what most services display inside a round profile picture, so the center lines up well.

Can I crop several images with the same box?

One image at a time. If you just need many images at the same size, the fixed-size presets in Resize Image (“Fill”) crop them all around the center in one go.
