How to use
- Drop a photo or click to choose one. Pasting with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V) works too.
- Set the border width and color. For a framed look with a band of another color between the photo and the border, add inner padding.
- Optionally round the corners or turn on Pad to a square, then download.
The photo is processed in your browser and never uploaded. It is not shrunk — the output simply grows by the border.
Widths and output size
Widths can be set as a percentage of the photo (of its shorter side) or in pixels. Percentages keep the border proportional across photos of different resolutions.
| Original | Settings | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 1080 × 1350 | Border 4% (= 43 px) | 1166 × 1436 |
| 800 × 600 | Border 10 px + padding 20 px | 860 × 660 |
| 1080 × 1350 | Pad to a square | 1350 × 1350 (135 px added left and right) |
Output size = original + (border + padding) × 2. Padding to a square extends the shorter side with the padding color until it matches the longer side.
Rounded corners
Corner radius applies to the outer edge. The padding and the photo use a radius reduced by the widths in between, so all the curves look concentric. With a 40 px radius, a 10 px border and 20 px padding, the padding is rounded at 30 px and the photo at 10 px.
The area outside rounded corners must be transparent, so the default format switches to PNG. JPG has no transparency, so that area is filled with white if you choose JPG.
Good uses
- Post to Instagram without cropping: turn on Pad to a square and fill with white or a color taken from the photo — Image Color Picker can grab one.
- Instant-photo look: a thick white border (5–8%) gives a printed-photo feel.
- Product shots and slides: a thin gray border (1–2 px) keeps white-background photos from blending into the page.
FAQ
Does it reduce quality?
The photo is placed at its original size. Only JPG output is recompressed, at 92% quality. Very large originals (over roughly 16.7 million pixels) are scaled down to fit browser limits.
Can I border several photos at once?
One at a time for now — your settings stay put, so just upload the next photo. To add text or a logo to many photos at once, use Add Watermark to Image.
I want to cut the bordered photo into tiles.
Run the finished image through Split Image for a grid or carousel.
