Things to keep in mind
- Gold and silver use troy ounces. A troy ounce is 31.1034768 g, heavier than the ordinary (avoirdupois) ounce of 28.35 g used here.
- “Ton” is ambiguous. A US short ton is 907.18474 kg and a UK long ton is 1,016.0469088 kg; the metric ton (tonne) here is 1,000 kg.
- Fluid ounces measure volume, not weight, so they cannot be converted here without knowing the density.
- For shipping, carriers often bill by dimensional weight — see the volumetric weight calculator.
