How to use
- Enter an amount and choose the currency you have (From) and the one you want (To). Popular currencies are listed first.
- Under the result you will see the rate in both directions, and the table shows the same amount in popular currencies.
- The arrow button swaps the two currencies. The update time and the rate source are shown at the bottom.
How the conversion works
Rates are fetched as units of each currency per 1 US dollar, and any pair is calculated through the dollar (a cross rate).
| Step | Calculation | Example (1 USD = 0.80 EUR, 1 USD = 150 JPY) |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Convert to USD | amount ÷ USD rate of the source currency | 100 EUR ÷ 0.80 = 125 USD |
| 2. Convert to target | USD amount × USD rate of the target currency | 125 × 150 = 18,750 JPY |
Yen, Vietnamese dong and Indonesian rupiah rates are shown per 100 units (for example, 100 JPY = 0.67 USD), following the way Korean banks quote them.
Why your bank’s rate is different
The rates here are close to the mid-market rate — the midpoint between what buyers pay and sellers ask on the currency market — and are usually refreshed once a day.
- Banks and exchange counters sell foreign cash above the mid-market rate and buy it back below it. That gap, the spread, varies by provider and is wider for less traded currencies. Airport kiosks are often among the most expensive.
- Card payments abroad can carry a foreign transaction fee on top of the network’s exchange rate, and international transfers usually have a transfer fee.
- When a card terminal abroad offers to charge you in your home currency (dynamic currency conversion), the merchant’s rate usually includes an extra markup. Paying in the local currency is normally cheaper.
FAQ
Are these live rates?
No. They are daily reference rates, and the time of the last update is shown under the converter. For trading or large transfers, check the live quote from your bank or broker.
Why are some currencies missing?
The list includes every currency the rate source publishes. If a currency is not listed, the source does not currently provide a rate for it.
Can I work out a price including tax or margin?
Yes — take the converted amount to the VAT calculator or the margin calculator.
